Firstly we want to welcome you with open arms to our website and we much appreciate you being here. We are Monish and Michelle Khadye, the husband and wife team behind Khadye Design and Construction [kar-dee-yay].
The dream of having our own company began when Monish and I met at a New Year’s Eve party 10 years ago through mutual friends and haven’t stopped talking about design and construction since. Over the next few years, Monish worked hard to get his Builder’s Licence and Construction Management Degree while I progressed as an Interior Designer after getting my design degree.
Long story short, Monish asked me to marry him in 2015 on a beach in Port Douglas and we married a year later at the Sirromet Winery in Brisbane. We then moved to London to experience a different part of the world and finished up with a 5 month trip of a lifetime throughout Europe before returning to Brisbane in early 2019 to set up our long-time dream of owning a company together.
Our aim is to push the boundaries and take Brisbane to a new level by transforming one home at a time. We love helping our clients bring their visions to life in order to create their forever home.
We hope you enjoy being part of our journey. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or with project opportunities.
Keep dreaming big!
Michelle and Monish
Michelle is an award-winning Interior Designer that has worked in a range of sectors such as residential, hotels, workplace, hospitality and retail during her 12 years in the industry. Through an exploration of form, materiality, balance and unity, she focuses on adding value to the project whilst bringing the client’s vision to life.
Knowing she wanted to be an Interior Designer from a young age, Michelle undertook her academic training straight out of school at the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) and graduated with Honours. She later completed her Full Real Estate Licence course in order to learn more about the real estate and property industry. She has worked in well-established Interior Design and Architectural firms all over the world including Noosa, San Francisco, Los Angeles and London. However, working alongside her husband Monish was always part of the plan.
Michelle is known for professionalism and strong relationships with her clients as she has a unique ability to decipher the client’s needs, even if they are unable to communicate their desires themselves. She has a strong interest in property development and you might see her attending regular property events around Brisbane.
Monish is a highly qualified builder with comprehensive experience in both the residential and commercial sectors. His relationships with subcontractors and his commercial experience sets him apart in the residential building market.
While Monish was doing his carpentry apprenticeship, he attended night classes to obtain a Diploma in Building and Construction and then applied for his Builder’s Licence. At the young age of 23, Monish became a qualified builder and started his own carpentry business. He realised he wanted to aim higher so he enrolled into the Queensland University of Technology and completed his Construction Management degree, graduating with Honours. He did this all whilst working full time in the industry as a commercial project manager. Monish and Michelle then moved to London where he project managed high-end commercial projects and saw a new level of detail and quality.
Although Monish had worked on $3 million residential renovation projects (single dwelling) and $80 million commercial projects, he wanted to create a construction company under his own name and team up with Michelle’s design ability to create a specialised offering in the market.
MBQ give us regular updates to changes to laws, codes and regulations as well as latest construction methodology, materials and suppliers. We also receive plenty of advice and support from MBQ on contracts, insurances and H&S requirements for specific projects.
Monish is a full member of the AIB which require him to undertake continuous professional development to maintain a high level of professional excellence by attending courses, seminars and industry events. Monish is also a committee member of the Queensland Young Builders Alliance.
